Spotlight on Club Member Andy Philips
Hi all! I joined this club as a complete beginner armed with a compact
camera, zero knowledge and bags of enthusiasm. Now 4 years on I have another
camera, a plethora of knowledge and double the enthusiasm!!
I have tried all aspects of this interesting game but I find myself leaning
towards Portraiture and Lighting and also building up a subsequent knowledge
of Photoshop skills to match. I think the near future in my specialty lies
in "wireless flash" and that's the direction I'm pushing.
I believe there is no such thing as a lucky shot and every photograph of
outstanding competition quality is engineered. By that, I mean that behind
every simple image lies a background of slowly acquired skills in
photography, skills which are gained through self study, practice and being
part of a competitive camera club.
Photography can be an insular pursuit and their-in lies a danger of a narrow
minded, blinkered attitude where your knowledge base will be severely
restricted. By joining a club you will raise your game and reap the benefits
of gleaning information and comparing notes with your peers, and you may
make a few mates too!
This camera club has a strong core of experienced photographers who will
help you along. All you have to do is ask. Remember a photograph is taken 6
inches behind every lens.
